EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This intensive four-day certification equips physical therapists with the knowledge and hands-on skills to screen, assess, classify, and conservatively manage idiopathic and degenerative scoliosis across the lifespan. Using evidence-based frameworks, respiratory and postural control training, three-dimensional auto-elongation concepts, and function-oriented exercise progressions, participants learn to design safe, measurable, and patient-centered care plans, and to collaborate effectively with orthotists and spine surgeons. Graduates who pass the final examination earn the IPTA Certified Scoliosis Physical Therapy Practitioner (CSPTP) credential.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

01. PROGRAM INTRODUCTION & RATIONALE

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scoliosis presents as complex three-dimensional spinal deformities affecting posture, breathing mechanics, functional capacity, and quality of life across all age groups. Early detection and standardized conservative care — integrating patient education, monitored exercise, bracing liaison, and peri-operative physiotherapy — can significantly reduce the risk of curve progression and long-term disability. This program aligns with international clinical reasoning standards, emphasizes outcome-driven care planning, and bridges communication among patients, families, orthotists, and surgeons. It strengthens safety culture, ethical documentation, and continuity of care.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

02. TARGET AUDIENCE

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Primary Audience: Licensed physical therapists and physiotherapy graduates or students (minimum Year 3)

Ideal Candidate: Practitioners working in musculoskeletal, paediatric, or orthopaedic settings with exposure to spinal conditions

Career Stage: All levels — no prior scoliosis training required

Geographic Scope: International — open to practitioners worldwide

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Knowledge (Cognitive Domain)

----------------------------

·  Differentiate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), adult degenerative scoliosis, and syndromic presentations.

·  Explain screening tools (Adam's test, scoliometer), radiologic basics (Cobb angle), classification concepts, red flags, and referral pathways.

·  Describe principles of conservative care, bracing indications and limitations, and peri-operative physiotherapy pathways.

Skills (Psychomotor Domain)

---------------------------

·  Perform structured scoliosis screen and functional assessment; interpret findings to set SMART treatment goals.

·  Design and cue 3D corrective exercise sequences with load management and breathing integration.
