------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Integrated Manual Therapy Certification Program equips licensed physiotherapists with specialized, post-graduate-level knowledge and advanced clinical skills in manual therapy. Designed for practitioners who wish to specialize in evidence-based musculoskeletal management, the program provides a rigorous grounding in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, clinical reasoning, and a comprehensive range of manual therapy approaches — including thrust manipulation, Cyriax, Maitland, long lever mobilization, and myofascial techniques. Structured across two modules covering the Lower Quadrant (Module I — 3 days) and Upper Quadrant (Module II — 4 days including exam), and supported by 8 hours of online pre-program content, the curriculum integrates theory, hands-on practice, case studies, article criticism, and competency-based assessment. Graduates emerge as confident, evidence-informed manual therapy practitioners capable of providing the highest level of musculoskeletal care.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clinical / Professional Need
----------------------------
Musculoskeletal conditions — including spinal disorders, arthritis, sports injuries, and post-operative presentations — represent one of the highest burdens of physical disability worldwide. Manual therapy, when applied with advanced clinical reasoning and technique proficiency, is a highly effective intervention across this spectrum of conditions. However, many physiotherapists in practice lack access to a structured, internationally accredited program that comprehensively covers the full range of evidence-based manual therapy approaches at an advanced, post-graduate level. This program addresses that gap by providing a rigorous, clinically integrated training pathway for physiotherapists seeking to specialize in musculoskeletal manual therapy.
Evidence Base & Alignment
-------------------------
The program is grounded in current evidence in musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, neurophysiology, pain science, and manual therapy research. Content integrates internationally recognized approaches — including Maitland, Cyriax, thrust manipulation, long lever mobilization, and myofascial concepts — alongside the latest clinical guidelines and research evidence. Assessment methods include online theory examinations, case study presentations, article criticism, and direct observation of practical competency. The program aligns with IPTA guidelines and is accredited by the International Physical Therapy Network (IPTN).
Alignment with IPTA Mission
---------------------------
This program advances IPTA's mission to empower physiotherapy professionals worldwide through high-standard, evidence-based continuing education. It supports IPTA's strategic goal of developing and promoting worldwide standards for physiotherapy education, training, and research — and reflects IPTA's recognition as an Affiliating Body by the International Physical Therapy Network (IPTN).

Assessment Strategy
------------------------
This program uses a multi-modal, competency-based assessment framework combining online theory examinations, open clinical discussions, article criticism, group case study presentations, and a final practical competency examination. This blend ensures that participants are evaluated across all learning domains — knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skill.
Online Theory Examinations (Formative + Summative)
--------------------------------------------------
An online theory examination is conducted before the program (pre-course, based on M0 content) and after each module (post-Module I and post-Module II). Examinations consist of multiple-choice questions assessing theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and understanding of manual therapy frameworks. Pass mark: 70%.
Article Criticism
------------------------
Participants critically analyze and evaluate a research article related to manual therapy and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. This develops evidence appraisal skills and the ability to integrate current research into clinical practice.
Case Study Presentations (Group)
--------------------------------
Four participant groups present clinical case studies in each module, applying program content to real-life musculoskeletal scenarios. This fosters collaborative learning, clinical reasoning development, and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.
Final Practical Examination — Direct Observation (Summative)
------------------------------------------------------------
Conducted at the end of Module II. The final practical examination involves direct observation of clinical procedures and performance in practice (1 hour duration). Examiners directly assess the participant's manual therapy technique, clinical reasoning, patient communication, and safety awareness. Pass mark: 70%.
Pass Mark
------------------------
70% in each assessment component (online theory examinations and final practical examination). All components must be passed to receive the program completion certificate.
Re-Assessment Policy
------------------------
· One free theory examination re-sit is available within 60 days of the original examination, conducted online proctored or at an IPTA-approved centre.
· Practical re-assessment is available via in-person direct observation at an upcoming IPTA program batch or via IPTA-approved video submission within 60 days. An administration fee may apply.
· Candidates unsuccessful after re-assessment may audit the relevant module day(s) of the next program intake at a reduced fee before re-attempting.
· All re-assessments must be completed within 6 months of the original program end date.
Certificate Issued
------------------------
